Panoramic hike from Grindelwald to Schwarzwaldalp

I don’t have a favourite hike, I just love that I have the choice to go somewhere else every time. As they are changing with the seasons it is even harder to pick one as number one
One hike that I do every year at least once is the hike from Grindelwald over the Grosse Scheidegg and down to Schwalzwaldalp. I normally drive to the parking of the Hotel Wetterhorn in Grindelwald and then start from there but you can just as easy get there by public transport: take the Bus from Grindelwald train station to the stop “Oberer Gletscher”.
There are different ways to hike up to the Grosse Scheidegg but the path over “Ischboden” is my favourite - maybe because I have spent some wonderful summer days there as a kid. At first the trail goes through the forest for a little way and then through alpine meadows with old trees under the face of the Wetterhorn mountain. In spring time there is a big variety of alpine flowers and in autumn I just love the colours and the deep blue sky.
After a steeper few turns up the mountain the trail takes a turn to the left (on the right side is the start of the alpine hike to the Glecksteinhütte - this will be subject to a future secret tip…)
From this point on you are walking through the local herd of cows. The cattle is used to hikers and also dogs, so you don’t have to worry about their horns. I still advice to take a look back every now and then to enjoy the scenery and the view of the Eiger and the valley of Grindelwald.
